Høvik Lys was for more than 100 years the country's largest producer of lighting. Jonas Hidle, Kjell Munch and Arnulf Bjørshol were the company's foremost designers. They came for five decades their mark on Norwegian lighting culture. Developing lamps for Oslo City Hall was a comprehensive and difficult task. The designers had to adapt the lighting to the different character of the rooms. Most prestigious were the 11 giant chandeliers of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a gift from the Norwegian government. Most important was the consumer market. Akershus, Viking, Dovre and Jonas were all lamps that struck well.
