Gro Holter is an interdisciplinary artist who specializes in painting, drawing and graphic techniques such as lithography and deep pressure. With a Master of Arts from the Oslo Academy of the Arts, she has completed a number of design projects both nationally and internationally, won several awards and has been exhibited in her showroom in Oslo as well as in galleries all over Norway.
"I moved away from home at a young age to attend art school and participated in my first exhibition when I was 14. Shortly after, I began to reflect on my own background, when strangers often asked where I came from and why I looked like I did, despite my Norwegian name. This aroused many questions in me - questions I decided to explore. ”
Gro works within a figurative and craft -based tradition, but plays with the motifs by adding unexpected elements. She transforms the obvious and logical by adding expressive or surreal details. Her use of strong colors creates associations with the East's textile traditions, combined with visual patterns inspired by Japanese woodcuts from the 18th century.
